I have never played a Diablo game. I am familiar enough with the franchise, premise and gameplay but the world of Diablo has never really interested me enough to jump in for some reason. I love loot base grinders too, which makes the lack of Diablo in my life doubly weird. But, it is what it is.
So, I have a couple friends who bought the Switch version and suggested I get. So I did....and boy have I been missing out!
I do not know what my hesitation was before, but I'm pretty disappointed in my past self for not playing this game previously. This game does pretty much everything well(except for one thing and I'll talk about that later). The world, lore, npcs and enemy variety are better than most in the genre. The customizability of builds and gear is definitely the best in the genre and sense of progress and character development is top notch.
Ive spent about 15 hours with the game and I truly feel that I have barely scratched the surface. I can easily see how people spend hundreds of hours playing this. Playing with friends is great fun and the constant flow of new loot , skills and gear makes each dungeon run a fun experience. Every button on the controller is used for spell casting, but it's completely customizable with the correct options chosen.
This game is a classic and playing a Wizard in a war torn land full of death and despair feels magical. But wait...there is one problem, and it's pretty big. The online matchmaking is awful. You don't pull up a list of available matches like most other games. Nope, the game just auto searches and 99 percent of the time just puts you in a game by yourself which no one joins. It's bad. Once you find a game with others, if you ever do, it's runs very well. I would suggest sending friend requests to everyone you play with to make online play easier and to avoid using the crummy matchmaking.
